No excuse for petrol bomb attack in Letterbreen – Tom Elliott

Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott, has condemned a petrol bomb attack on residential premises at Letterbreen in Co Fermanagh.

Mr Elliott said:

“There is no excuse for such dangerous, criminal activity. The wider public must be allowed to have its opinions free from such intimidation.

“There are suggestions that this attack on innocent people may be linked to opposition to proposals to carry out an exploratory drill in relation to investigations into fracking.

“While many people, including myself have concerns about the proposals to carry out fracking in Fermanagh it does not justify terrorist type campaigns against the process and those involved in it.

“It is unfortunate that some of those involved in the anti-fracking campaign are determined to engage in violent acts. I have also been made aware of some unsavoury actions at the protest area, some of which are of a sectarian nature.”

Erne West Ulster Unionist Councillor Alex Baird continued: “I have outlined my serious concerns about fracking, these include the potential of causing unstable ground structure and possibility of land and waterways pollutant leading to public health worries.

“I will not however be part of any campaign that breaks the law, has sectarian overtones and is violent.”
