Ulster Unionist Sports spokesperson Michael McGimpsey MLA has hailed Rory McIlroy`s latest golfing success following his victory at the US PGA in Valhalla, Kentucky.
Mr McGimpsey said:
“Three weeks ago Northern Ireland was thrilled as Rory McIlroy won The Open at Hoylake and today we are celebrating his epic win in the US PGA at Valhalla, winning back to back Majors.
“Having won the US Open, the Open, and the US PGA (twice), we look forward to April next year to see if he can win the US Masters to win his third Major in a row and complete the career Grand Slam, only the sixth player ever to do so.
“Certainly very few people will be betting against him. The whole of Northern Ireland will enjoy watching this 25 year old write his own scripts in a fabulous future for many years to come.
“Rory’s talent is recognised on the world stage, he is the World number One, he is one of the most popular golfers on the circuit, a credit to his family and a great ambassador for Northern Ireland.”
