Ulster Unionist Policing Board spokesperson, Ross Hussey MLA, has condemned the hate filled speech which took place at the Ardoyne Fleadh over the weekend.
Mr Hussey said:
"What we saw on display at the Ardoyne Fleadh should have no place in any modern society. It sends out a terrible message to today's children. I wait to hear what the Fleadh Chairman and republican politicians have to say about this. It's time that they showed some leadership and make clear that what happened at the Ardoyne Fleadh was totally unacceptable and won't happen again.
"It is appalling that a bigot should get up on a stage and spread such bile. There was no 'culture' involved, just unbridled bigotry. It sends a terrible message out in North Belfast and does absolutely nothing to enhance community relations.
"I have contacted the PSNI about this and I'll be raising it at the Policing Board."
Ulster Unionist Councillor, Alderman David Browne MBE said:
“I am appalled by the comments made at the Ardoyne Fleadh. The fact that these were made in an interface area where we are all trying to build community relations makes it even worse. The silence from republican politicians on this is deafening. Apologists for this type of disgusting behaviour should remember that we are living in the year 2014 and not the dark days of the Troubles. The comments made at the Fleadh would seem to indicate that many republicans are still stuck in the past.”
