McGrory has questions to answer following PPS Ardoyne Fleadh decision - Hussey

Ulster Unionist Policing Board spokesperson Ross Hussey MLA has said that the Director of Public Prosecutions Barra McGrory has questions to answer following the Public Prosecution Service’s decision not to take action following the hate speech delivered at the Ardoyne Fleadh.

Mr Hussey said:

"I was disgusted to hear that the PPS have decided that there is not enough evidence for any charges in relation to the blatant sectarian comments made from the stage at Ardoyne Fleadh.

“I would like Barra McGrory to come out publicly and explain just how the PPS have arrived at this decision. How they can reach this conclusion is both indefensible and inexplicable.

"The evidence is there, on film, for the whole world to see, yet the PPS can't see anything. This was a racist and sectarian rant. What exactly do republicans have to do to have been deemed to have breached the law? Failure to act brings the PPS into disrepute. I want to hear from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the sooner the better.

”We have recently been plagued with a series of disgraceful attacks, particularly in Belfast where people have been singled out because of their skin colour or perceived religious identity.

“For the PPS to refuse to take action against someone very publicly telling an entire section of our community to “f*** off back to England where they came from” defies belief. The Druids band do not get to decide who has a right to live in Northern Ireland. It is to their eternal shame that the PPS seems to disagree.”
