Ulster Unionists to meet Director of Public Prosecutions regarding Ardoyne Fleadh decision

Ulster Unionist Justice spokesperson Tom Elliott has confirmed that he is to meet the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the PPS decision not to proceed with any charges in relation to the actions at the Ardoyne Fleadh.

Mr Elliott said:

“The decision not to prosecute in this case has not only caused a great deal of disquiet, but has badly shaken confidence in the neutrality and fairness of our justice system.

“I am absolutely disgusted at the lack of courage of the PPS to pursue the Druids for what was clearly a sectarian hate filled outburst.

“That the PSNI forwarded a file to the PPS, only for them not to take any further pro-active action is laughable. Do the Druids now have the right to say who can or cannot live in Northern Ireland?”

West Belfast Ulster Unionist spokesperson Bill Manwaring said:

“It is now obvious that there are sections of our community in Northern Ireland who can be verbally abused, told to 'go home where they belong' and condemned for their religious or cultural beliefs without any protection from our legal system.

“This vicious hate-filled bile aimed squarely at the Unionist community in Northern Ireland is a world away from the equality and shared future which we are supposed to be working towards.”
