Ulster Unionist MEP, Jim Nicholson, has welcomed the Scottish referendum result.
Mr Nicholson said:
"This has been a tremendous night for Scotland, reinforcing as it does, a full commitment to the preservation of the Union. The result will provide a new confidence to our people that we are a united nation - the United Kingdom, together as one entity.
"The margin of victory for the ''Better Together' campaign was decisive even after the public opinion polls indicating that it would be much closer.
"In Northern Ireland this result will be warmly welcomed by all those who believe in the enormous benefits of being British - economically, socially and culturally.
"The greater number of people in Northern Ireland, with their historical and cultural ties, will have good cause to celebrate this victory. Common sense and pragmatism has won the day."
