McGimpsey condemns South Belfast attacks

The Ulster Unionist Party’s South Belfast MLA, Michael McGimpsey, has condemned the weekend attacks on two foreign national families living in Ulsterville Avenue.

The attacks on a family home and car in the early hours of Sunday morning are being treated as racially motivated.

Mr McGimpsey said;

“I find it despicable that anyone would attack these two families in their own homes and I utterly condemn these attacks against people who are simply trying to live their lives in peace.

“I cannot imagine how frightened and upset the families must be and I am appealing for anyone with information that may be of help to police to contact them on the non-emergency 101 telephone number.

“South Belfast has long been one of the most ethnically diverse constituencies in the whole of Northern Ireland and has welcomed people from around the world. New residents have made an invaluable contribution to the culture and economy of the city.

“Belfast has long had a reputation as a welcoming friendly city and we cannot allow that reputation to be tarnished by mindless thugs whose actions do not reflect the feelings of the vast majority of the people of Belfast.”
