Craig condemns vicious weekend attack in South Belfast

Belfast Ulster Unionist Botanic Councillor, Graham Craig, has condemned a vicious attack on the home and property of foreign nationals in the early hours of Sunday morning on Ulsterville Avenue.

Speaking today, Councillor Craig said:

"I am horrified and angered by this incident and appeal to anyone with information to pass it on to the PSNI without hesitation. For years Northern Ireland welcomed new comers to our capital City, including those facing persecution in Europe. The actions of those responsible are therefore nothing short of despicable.

“It is important that those responsible are held to account for their actions and the only way to do this is through the courts, allowing due legal process.

“My thoughts and those of the local community are with the victims and their families, for I am sure this incident was very distressing, as well as being wholly undeserved and unjustified for whatever reason - whether it was because of their religion or colour of their skin.

“We must stand together in tackling hate crime and I urge communities to do just that.

“Anyone with information should call the Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
