Nesbitt condemns latest example of Sinn Fein economic illiteracy

Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, has slammed the latest example of economic illiteracy from Sinn Fein, this time over funding for victims and survivors of the Troubles.

Mr Nesbitt said:

"In our debate on the crisis in the Victims and Survivors Service, OFMDFM Committee Member Bronwyn McGahan claimed there has been a 50% uplift in the budget for victims and survivors.

"What she either forgets or fails to  recognise is that the budget in the last mandate was £36 million over three years, or £12 million per annum, whereas the current pot of money is £50 million over four years, or £12.5 million per annum. That is an uplift off less than 5% per annum, not a 50% increase.

"It is a shame that Sinn Fein cannot put their hands up and admit they must do better, rather than try to spin their way out of trouble."
