Nesbitt repeats call for national investigation into Kincora

Ulster Unionist Party Leader Mike Nesbitt MLA has repeated his call for a national investigation with the powers to question Whitehall departments and the security services to investigate the national scandal that is the Kincora affair.

Mr Nesbitt said:

“I welcome the new evidence presented in tonight’s BBC Spotlight programme regarding Kincora.

“It was a fundamental conclusion of previous enquiries into what happened at Kincora, that all the abuse took place in the house itself. Chris Moore's report presented credible evidence that this was not the case and that boys were transported to venues, including a local hotel, where they were given alcohol before being taken to bedrooms where they were abused.

“The time has come to find out what really happened. There should be no hiding place because, if the allegations are true, it is a national scandal and it requires a national investigation.

“We need an Inquiry that has the power to compel Whitehall Departments or the security services to provide any information they may hold.

“That is why we supported last week’s Assembly motion calling for the investigation to be passed over to Fiona Woolf's UK-wide inquiry but I re-iterate the point I made then. Any Inquiry must be given the powers to look into the darkest corners of government in London.”
