The Ulster Unionist Party’s Policing Spokesperson Ross Hussey MLA, has demanded answers from the Police in the wake of a critical report from the Police Ombudsman regarding the PSNI’s handling of the On the Runs Scheme.
West Tyrone MLA Mr Hussey, who is a member of the Policing Board, said,
“I am extremely concerned at the findings of the Police Ombudsman, Dr Michael Maguire, in relation to the PSNI investigation into the On the Runs scheme and letters of comfort.
“The Police Ombudsman has produced a report which found there was a lack of clarity, structure and leadership, and disjointed communication between key officers.
“Bearing in mind the previous criticism of the PSNI’s handling of this situation by Lady Justice Hallett it is quite clear that the Police have serious questions to answer.
“This is quite simply a betrayal of victims.
“If the actions – or inaction – of individual officers have played a role in this fiasco, then disciplinary action must be taken and I shall be raising this matter at the Policing Board as a matter of urgency.”
