Hussey condemns cowardly attack in Londonderry

Ulster Unionist Policing spokesperson Ross Hussey MLA has condemned last night’s attack in the Creggan area of Londonderry in which a man was shot in the leg, as ‘cowardly.’

The West Tyrone representative said:

"Last night a gang of masked men chose to terrorise a family in the city of Londonderry when they burst into the kitchen of a house in Cecilia's Walk in the Creggan area at around 6pm.

“They cared nothing for the welfare of the two young children present, one a baby and the other a five year old child, as they took a man outside and shot him in the leg.

“This attack is as cowardly as it is barbaric. I am convinced that the people of the Creggan are no different to the rest of Londonderry and Northern Ireland in that they just want to live normal lives free from violence and the fear of violence.

“These armed gangs clearly will not stop voluntarily, so it is up to the community to assist the Police in removing them from society and ensuring their rule of fear is brought to an end. It is only by assisting the Police that communities can rid themselves of these cowardly parasites.”
