Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, has congratulated Robin Swann on his unanimous selection by the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Association as their candidate for next year's General Election. Robin was endorsed at a meeting in Carnlea Hall on Tuesday evening and his name now goes forward for ratification to the Party Officers.
Mr Nesbitt said:
"I am delighted that another candidate has come forward unopposed for Westminster 2015. This is further evidence of a party in revival mode, appreciating the importance of teamwork and strategic thinking.
“Robin has a strong track record of serving the people of North Antrim in the Stormont Assembly since his election in May 2011 where he serves as the Party’s Chief Whip and Chair of the Employment & Learning committee. I am very confident that he would make an excellent Member of Parliament and look forward to joining him on the campaign trail in North Antrim next year.”
Robin Swann MLA said:
“I want to thank the North Antrim Association for their continued support. As a proud son of North Antrim it is an honour and a privilege to represent this constituency - in which I was born and live with my family - in the Northern Ireland Assembly.
“If I am elected to represent it at Westminster, I will promote the interests of all the people in North Antrim, from Bushmills on the coast, to Ballymena in the south, and all points in between.
“I will continue to fight for the retention of the Dalriada Hospital, to promote employment opportunities, especially for our young people, and to put pressure on the Stormont Executive and the Westminster Government to do all in its power to support the people of North Antrim.”
