Transport Minister, Danny Kennedy has announced that a £150,000 road improvement scheme to improve traffic flow and assist pedestrian movements around the junction at Boucher Road and Boucher Crescent in Belfast is scheduled to begin on Monday 26 January.
The scheme will provide traffic signals to assist traffic to enter and exit Boucher Crescent. Pedestrians will also benefit from the provision of controlled pedestrian crossings on all legs of the junction.
Danny Kennedy said:
“I am aware of the difficulties drivers experience at this busy junction.
“The works to provide controlled crossings will also greatly assist local residents from the Village area access shops and facilities in Boucher Crescent.
“This investment will significantly help to resolve these issues.”
Cllr Jeffrey Dudgeon (Balmoral) said:
"The imminent installation of traffic lights and crossings at this junction on the Boucher Road will be a great boon for pedestrians and motorists alike.
“By creating gaps in the traffic, vehicles will also be able to exit from the Olympia Leisure Centre with greater ease and fewer long waits.
“The Minister is to be applauded for meeting the concerns of local residents as well as retail store and showroom customers who will now be able to cross the main road in safety.
“The installation of lights will be a welcome contribution to the process of softening the area and developing gateway connectivity."
