Ulster Unionist Sports spokesperson Leslie Cree MLA has congratulated Darren Clarke on being named as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain for 2016.
Mr Cree said:
"The news that Darren Clarke will captain the European team at the 2016 Ryder Cup will be warmly welcomed in Northern Ireland.
“It is fitting recognition of the achievements of Darren Clarke himself and highlights the strength of the game of golf in Northern Ireland given the recent success enjoyed by Darren, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.
“Darren Clarke will bring a wealth of experience to the role, having already been involved in seven Ryder Cups. He won four and lost one as a player and was also twice on the winning side as vice-captain.
“The Northern Ireland public will be looking in with great interest when Darren leads Europe out at Hazeltine, Minnesota in 2016."
