Kinahan delighted by expansion at Belfast International Airport
South Antrim MLA Danny Kinahan has expressed his delight that EasyJet are increasing capacity on all their services from Belfast International Airport to London and other major English cities.
The Ulster Unionist MLA said:
“News that EasyJet is planning to significantly increase capacity on its services in and out of Northern Ireland is a tremendous boost for the International Airport, South Antrim and the wider economy. I am particularly delighted to hear that the airport calculates that the extra 160,000 seats will lead to over 100 new jobs for the airport and its suppliers. The fact that this is being achieved without government subsidy is an added bonus.
“It is also encouraging that today Wizz Air is launching their new service to Katowice in Poland, which will be followed up by their new route to Vilnius in Lithuania in April. In addition, Jet2 will introduce Rome and Prague flights later this week.
“We need to build on this with new scheduled business orientated flights. Government can and should help by looking again at reducing air passenger duty, and re-establishing an air route development fund for Northern Ireland.”
