Hussey calls for Army Bomb Squad presence in the North West following latest Londonderry attack

The Ulster Unionist Party’s Policing spokesperson, Ross Hussey MLA, has called for a permanent Army Technical Officer (ATO) presence in the North West following the latest bomb attack in Londonderry.

Mr Hussey, who is the Party’s Westminster candidate for West Tyrone, said:

“Last night saw yet another bomb attack in the heart of Londonderry which risked the lives of police and local people and caused great disruption.

“I obviously condemn this attack, and would like to once again express my thanks and appreciation for the work of the Police and the Army Technical Officers, who as usual, risked their lives to protect others.

“The frequency of these attacks in Londonderry means that serious consideration must be given to establishing a permanent ATO presence in the North West to help cover the Foyle and West Tyrone constituencies.

“I believe that Castlederg Police Station would make an ideal base for such a presence which would provide support and re-assurance for the North West of the Province, and reduce the delays caused by waiting for ATO support to travel to the region from Lisburn or Holywood.”
