MP commends Battle of Waterloo commemoration events in Enniskillen

The Member of Parliament for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Tom Elliott, has hailed a successful Battle of Waterloo bi-centenary commemoration which took place in Enniskillen Castle on Saturday.

Mr Elliott said;

“I attended Saturday’s commemoration events which began with a service in St Macartin's Cathedral and continued in Enniskillen Castle. I would firstly like to commend the organisers of the events, as it was clear they had spent a great deal of time putting together what was a very well run professional commemoration of one of the most important battles in European history. It is great to see the rich history of our town being remembered in such a public way.

“I personally found it very interesting and informative to learn about some of the figures who had fought with the Enniskillen Regiments at the Battle of Waterloo and it is also important to remember and commemorate the role that these individuals played.

“I would encourage everyone to visit the Museum in Enniskillen Castle and examine the exhibitions which are on display. Enniskillen and County Fermanagh has a rich history which is well worth exploring."
