Andy Allen, the Ulster Unionist Party`s North Belfast spokesperson, has condemned Sunday night’s attack on Clifton Street Orange Hall.
Mr Allen said:
“Clifton Street Orange Hall is an iconic and historic building of great symbolic importance to many people. The individuals who attacked it last night with paint and petrol bombs knew exactly what they were doing.
“I unreservedly condemn this attack as I would condemn any attack and I am very clear that there is no justification for the targeting of any property, regardless of motive.
“It is clear that there are elements out there that are determined to whip up tensions and provoke a response in the form of retaliation. This is a road to nowhere and a trap into which the community must not walk.
“I would urge people to remain calm and for anyone with any information that might help the police apprehend those responsible, to contact them on 101 or anonymously by contacting crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
