Tsipras ‘totally devoid of realism’ - Nicholson

Ulster Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has warned of the gravity of the situation facing Greece and the Eurozone, as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras today addressed the European Parliament.

Speaking after the debate, Mr Nicholson said:

“I witnessed today in the European Parliament a Prime Minister of Greece who is totally devoid of realism and who does not seem to understand the gravity of the situation.

“I have sympathy for the Greek people who are facing this crisis, but I also have sympathy for those in other Eurozone countries who have carried out painful reforms - why should they have to pay for Greece’s debt?

“I fear that Greece is slowly but surely on its way out of the Eurozone financial system.

“It is now vital that decisions are made not only for the sake of Greece and the Eurozone, but also non-Eurozone countries like the United Kingdom whose economies are experiencing the knock-on effects of a weak Euro.”
