Ulster Unionists launch Westminster All Party Parliamentary Group on the Union

Ulster Unionist MPs, Danny Kinahan and Tom Elliott, have established an All Party Parliamentary Group on the Union.  The APPG invites MPs from across the parties at Westminster to work together on a strategy that will map out the actions required to maintain a Union that helps its citizens thrive economically, socially, culturally and politically.

Danny Kinahan MP said:

“The Union has so much to offer its citizens socially, culturally, economically and politically and I am passionate about promoting its benefits.  Already in this Parliament we have seen proposals to devolve more powers to Scotland, cities in England and English Votes for English Laws.  Instead of this piecemeal approach to the future of the Union we want to see the Government setting out their plans for the next five years and beyond.

“The aim of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Union is to bring together MPs from all parts of the United Kingdom to consider how to best plan a strategy to ensure the citizens of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland thrive.

“Ulster Unionist MPs will always seek to act in the best interests of the Union and we want to play a proactive role in strengthening the relationships between the four regions of the United Kingdom.

“It was always clear that no matter what the outcome of the referendum in Scotland, there would be a recalibration of the Union.  It is important that the Government now draws up a strategy for the future of the United Kingdom that sets out a clear roadmap.  I hope that the APPG on the Union can play a constructive role in making this a reality.”
