Sinn Féin vindictiveness is preventing Ulster Aviation Society open day – Nesbitt

Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, has accused Sinn Féin of demonstrating petty vindictiveness by picking on the Ulster Aviation Society again and preventing them holding an open day at the former Maze prison site for the second year in a row.

Mike Nesbitt said:

“This decision reeks of petty vindictiveness by people stomping their feet because they could not get their own way over the so-called Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Centre proposal.

“There is no reason the proposed development of the Maze site cannot go ahead, creating several thousand new jobs on what is one of the most strategic sites in the country.

“For Sinn Féin to block that development is one thing. To pick on the Ulster Aviation Society is to stoop pretty low.

“The DUP are not blameless either. They should have known better than to support building a peace centre on the most contested and controversial plot of land in the country. Their lack of consultation with innocent victims demonstrated a shocking disregard for the views of those who paid the biggest price during the Troubles. The impasse over developing the site is yet another unwelcome and depressing sign of the inability of Sinn Féin and the DUP to run a government.”
