Ulster Unionist MEP, Jim Nicholson, has expressed concerns about the pressures faced by dairy processors following the announcement that Fane Valley is to merge some parts of its business with Lakeland Dairies.
Mr Nicholson said:
“This is a very worrying trend, as it comes as a second amalgamation following Town of Monaghan’s recent merger with Ballyrashane.”
“It is clear that processors as well as farmers are under extreme pressure because of the present crisis in the dairy sector.
“It certainly brings home concerns that many of us have had for some time about the future of dairy processing in Northern Ireland.”
