Andy Allen welcomes Ulster University funding to review support for veterans in Northern Ireland

Andy Allen, the Ulster Unionist Party's North Belfast Spokesperson, has welcomed the news that Ulster University has secured £355,000 to review support for military veterans in Northern Ireland.

Mr Allen said:

“I welcome the news that Ulster University has secured £355,000 in funding from the Forces in Mind Trust (FIMT) to carry out research to review support for Veterans in Northern Ireland.

“Once the research is completed we will have a better understanding of the type of support services available, how they can be improved and most importantly how to access them.

“The three year project has several aims including: reviewing service availability for those in the veteran community; increasing the general awareness of service availability; determining the size of the veteran community in Northern Ireland; identifying the future needs of military personnel transitioning to civilian life, and making recommendations where necessary that could improve access to more tailored support and guidance.

“I believe this research compliments the Ulster Unionist Party's Veterans Support Workshop which aims to address the lack of awareness of the services available, how to access them and the need for better signposting.”
