Hussey condemns latest Londonderry security alert following explosion in Galliagh

Ulster Unionist MLA and Policing Board Member Ross Hussey, has condemned the explosion which took place in the Galliagh area of Londonderry on Tuesday night as further evidence that those referred to as 'dissident republicans' have absolutely no regard as to who they might kill or injure as a result of their attacks.

Mr Hussey said:

“On Tuesday night at 23:45, residents in the Skeoge Road area of Londonderry reported hearing a loud bang.

“Police who investigated saw that a bin had been damaged by some kind of explosion and a security alert commenced.

“Once again local people and the security forces have had their personal safety put at risk by faceless thugs and cowards as the result of an indiscriminate attack.

“As with the incident in Strabane last week when a mortar device was abandoned in a graveyard, local people have had their daily routines disrupted for absolutely nothing.

“The people of Londonderry face very real problems in terms of jobs, housing, healthcare and anti-social behaviour. The people who are planting explosive devices are doing nothing to help address these issues and merely making life a misery for local people.

“The quickest way for the community to rid themselves of these criminal gangs is by giving total backing to the Police and passing on any information they have.”
