Public must help PSNI catch those who have brought guns on to the streets of Belfast – Ald Jim Rodgers

Alderman Jim Rodgers has said the PSNI must be allowed to go wherever the evidence takes them as they investigate the murder of Kevin McGuigan in the Short Strand area of East Belfast last night.

Alderman Jim Rodgers said:

“I totally condemn this killing. It is as wrong now as it was in the past for assassins to bring guns on to the streets of Belfast to commit murder. Those who pulled the trigger or gave the order, need removed from society.

“I appeal to everyone to fully co-operate with the police investigation. There has been a maelstrom of allegations about the involvement of various sections of the republican movement so it is important that this investigation proceeds unhindered, with the police being allowed to go wherever the evidence takes them.

“If it is a so called revenge killing the only way to break that cycle is for the people who have the knowledge of who did it to get that information to the police.”
