Sinn Fein denials predictable: Elliott

Ulster Unionist MP Tom Elliott has commented on Sinn Fein’s reaction to the PSNI’s statement on the Kevin McGuigan murder case.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP said:

“You could have written the script for this, the finger points at members of the PIRA as being responsible for carrying out a brutal murder and somehow Sinn Fein want us to believe the Police are the ones who have done something wrong.

“They must forgive us for being cynical of their words.  We have heard these denials of PIRA involvement in post-ceasefire murder and criminality before.

“The statements coming from Sinn Fein have echoes of their reaction to the Northern Bank robbery and the murders of people like Frank Kerr and Robert McCartney.  Sinn Fein were even brazen enough to not retract a statement by Gerry Adams that those suspecting PIRA involvement were attempting to damage the peace process, when the organisation eventually did admit responsibility for Frank Kerr’s murder.

“Sinn Fein must learn that public scrutiny in the aftermath of murder such as that of Kevin McGuigan is not anti-peace process.”
