A meeting took place at Westminster last week to reform the All Party Parliamentary Group on aerospace. Ulster Unionist Peer, Lord Empey, was elected as a vice chairman of the Group which is now chaired by Wolverhampton North East Labour MP Emma Reynolds.
All Party Parliamentary Groups consist of Members of both Houses of Parliament and all Parties, and cover a wide range of topics, from those involved with individual countries to matters of policy interest to MPs and Lords.
Commenting on his appointment, Lord Empey said; 'I have had a long standing interest in Aerospace matters, especially as I represented East Belfast, the hub in Northern Ireland of the aerospace industry, but also because of my roles as both Enterprise and Employment Minister when I was at Stormont.'
'There is a vibrant aerospace sector in Northern Ireland with great expertise and I am glad that the APPG has been reformed and taking a keen interest in what is still one of the UK's premier manufacturing and research sectors. I hope to be able to ensure that Northern Ireland's interests are kept to the fore in the years ahead.'
