Ministers should only get paid after doing a week`s work – Robin Swann MLA

Robin Swann, Ulster Unionist MLA for North Antrim and Party Chief Whip, has written to the Independent Financial Review Panel asking them to put in place a mechanism so that Ministers only receive a salary and pension contributions after they have served a period of eight days in office.

Mr Swann said:

“I have been asked by many people if the in-out DUP Ministers get paid as they jump in and out of their positions. I hope that my proposal to the Independent Financial Review Panel will bring some clarity - that the public will know that Ministers will only get paid and receive pension contributions after doing a full week`s work.

“The actions of the DUP`s yo-yo Ministers are bringing politics into disrepute. The DUP leadership may think that they are operating some form of ‘clever device’, but the public don`t see it that way.

“They can`t attend debates about the crisis in the Health Service, but will turn up for others. For the sake of the Health Service, this needs to end and it needs to end now. I know that some DUP MLAs agree with me.”
