East Belfast Ulster Unionist MLA, Andy Allen, has condemned those who were responsible for a security alert earlier today in which a viable explosive device was discovered on the Beersbridge Road.
Mr Allen said:
"I unreservedly condemn those responsible for today’s security alert on the Beersbridge Road which was caused by the discovery of a viable explosive device.
"Whoever was responsible for leaving it at that location showed complete disregard for the safety of the community. Had it exploded it could have caused serious injuries or even fatalities.
"The people of East Belfast want a peaceful future. They face very real problems in terms of jobs, housing, healthcare and educational opportunities for their children. These are the issues on which they want to focus and the last thing they need are criminals leaving explosive devices in the heart of their communities.
