Elliott encourages churches to take advantage of Roof Repair Fund

Tom Elliott, Ulster Unionist MP for Fermanagh & South Tyrone, has welcomed a new round of funding for roof repairs for places of worship. Set up in 2014, the Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund will re-open to applications in the autumn with a fund of £25million available for successful applicants.

Given the tight timescales associated with the application process, Tom Elliott has said there is a great opportunity for churches to apply or express an interest immediately if they feel they would benefit from it.

Tom Elliott MP said:

“The grants offer support of between£10,000 to £100,000 for repairs to roofs and rain water disposal systems for listed places of worship. Across Northern Ireland 25 places of worship have already benefitted from this scheme, totalling over £1.2m. However, it is regretful that no churches in County Fermanagh have so far availed of the support.

“I would strongly encourage any place of worship across Northern Ireland, but particularly in Fermanagh and South Tyrone, to avail of this fantastic yet fleeting opportunity.

“The fund has made specific mention that previously unsuccessful applicants should re-apply and my office is ready to support any local parishes in the application process.

“While the fund is currently closed, it has been indicted that applications will be re-opening imminently. In order to find out more about the scheme, I would encourage people to visit the Fund website at www.lpowroof.org.uk.”
