Nicholson praises Parisians' response to attacks

Ulster Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has expressed his condolences to the victims of Friday’s terror attacks in Paris and praised the response of Parisians.

Mt Nicholson said:

“The events which unfolded in Paris on Friday evening were shocking and I wish to send my condolences to the terrorists’ victims and the people of France.

“The attacks were indiscriminate, with victims of all ages, from all backgrounds, from all religions and none.  Reports from eyewitnesses suggest that even wheelchair bound concert goers were shown no mercy.

“The terrorists who carried out these barbaric and sickening attacks were extremists who were hell bent on causing carnage and creating division in Paris and beyond.  They did not represent the Muslim community.

“In the immediate aftermath of the attacks it became clear that the attackers’ attempts to divide the city failed with Parisians uniting, opening their homes to strangers and rallying to the call to donate blood to such a degree that they were being turned away from hospitals.  This defiance is to be praised as it sends a clear signal to the terrorists that they will not succeed."
