Ulster Unionists respond to Prime Minister’s statement on Syria

Danny Kinahan MP has said that Ulster Unionist support for military action in Syria will rely on criteria being met.

Danny Kinahan MP said:

“We welcome the statement brought before Parliament today by the Prime Minister.  It was a comprehensive statement that clearly outlines the proposed way forward in tackling ISIS.

“The threat posed by ISIS to the security of the United Kingdom, the lives of our citizens, to the lives of many, many people across the world and to democracy in the Middle East must be the key consideration for those who will be required to vote on any action.

“We have been clear that we could not support military action in Syria without achievable outcomes or an exit strategy.  We have seen the cost of that both in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent times.  However we have said that it would be reasonable to consider targeted action as part of a wider coalition response.  The points set out in the Prime Minister’s statement today give us much to consider.

“We look forward to the motion from the Prime Minister to assess if our criteria for military action in Syria has been met by Government.”
