Vital that origin of weapons uncovered in Co Monaghan is traced - Hussey

Ross Hussey MLA, Ulster Unionist Policing spokesperson has said it is vital the origin of weapons seized in County Monaghan can be traced.

Ross Hussey MLA said:

“The news that Garda had successfully seized weapons believed to have belonged to dissident Republicans in County Monaghan was welcome.  It is always comforting to know that weapons are in the hands of the authorities rather than those of terrorists.

“I am concerned about the origin of the weapons, not least as they have been reported to have come from PIRA stockpiles.  I have written to the Chief Constable asking if he can confirm that the PSNI are liaising with the Garda and that ballistics reports will be shared.

“These weapons posed a serious threat to life; I would congratulate the Garda and the PSNI in their ongoing work to thwart dissident Republicans.”
