Cllr Alex Redpath elected Secretary General of European Young Conservatives

This week a delegation of Young Unionists attended the annual congress of the European Young Conservatives in Prague. During the congress former Young Unionist Chairman Cllr Alexander Redpath was elected the Secretary General of the European Young Conservatives. Cllr Redpath served as Vice Chairman of the organisation during 2014-2015.

Speaking on the event, Councillor Alexander Redpath commented:

"The European Young Conservatives now represents 27 conservative youth wings from across Europe. At our annual congress we welcomed new member parties from Germany, Flanders and Italy. Many of these parties are in government in their home countries including our members from the UK, Finland, Flanders, Turkey and Poland.

“I am extremely pleased to be elected the Secretary General of the EYC. I hope to continue the work I started as Vice Chairman offering support and training to our member parties as they spread centre-right political values across Europe.

“We look forward to continuing our association with the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists of which the Ulster Unionist Party is an active member.

“Both the AECR and the European Young Conservatives have recently visited Belfast as guests of the Ulster Unionists. This has boosted the profile of the party internationally and allowed us to advocate the unionist cause to the leaders of Europe."
