McCusker demands action over Craigavon shooting

Ulster Unionist Councillor Colin McCusker has called on the authorities to ‘root out’ those responsible for the overnight punishment shooting in the Meadowbrook area of Craigavon. A number of men forced their way into a house in Meadowbrook shortly after 23:00 GMT on Wednesday.  A 26-year-old man who was in the house was taken outside by the gang and shot.

Mr McCusker said:

“Yesterday evening I took part in a Cross Community Carol Service in the Cathedral in Armagh, where adults and children from right across the new Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough joined together to celebrate Christmas.  It is terrible to think, that while we were gathered there as a united community, a small gang were planning to carry out this horrific attack.

“Guns have no place in our society, and the Police need to be given all the resources they require to root out the individuals behind this attack.  This is a very small minority who rule communities with fear, and is not reflective of the wider Craigavon area.  Less than a mile from this estate there is a thriving community with its own allotment scheme led by positive community leaders who want to improve their area not drag it back to the past.”
