Executive must act to stop further Bombardier job losses

East Belfast MLA Andy Allen and Councillor Sonia Copeland have expressed their disappointment at the news that 60 jobs will be cut at Bombardier.  They called on the Executive to act to provide security for existing jobs.

Andy Allen MLA said:

“This news will be devastating for those workers affected.  Manufacturing in Northern Ireland has been hard hit and we now need to see urgent action to put an end to the stream of announcements of job losses in the sector.

“We need to see the Executive acting to improve job security.  We cannot afford to continue to lose skilled workers from Northern Ireland’s labour force.”

Councillor Sonia Copeland said:

“This is deeply disappointing news.  No matter whether these jobs are temporary or permanent it is still a loss to those workers, their families and to East Belfast.  We need to hear assurances from the DETI Minister about what he will be doing to ensure that this is not a sign of things to come at Bombardier.”
