McCandless condemns so-called ‘Tiger Kidnapping’ in Coleraine

Ulster Unionist Councillor William McCandless has condemned the criminal gang behind Monday’s kidnapping and robbery in Coleraine in which an employee of the Nationwide Building Society and his family were threatened.

Councillor McCandless said:

“Like the entire community in Coleraine and the surrounding area, I was shocked to learn that a criminal gang had targeted an employee of the Nationwide at his home in the early hours of Monday morning and forced him to travel to his place of work in Coleraine, whilst at least one family member was held hostage.

“This must have been a horrendous ordeal for the employee and his family and it is a disgrace that there are those criminal elements in our society who would rather terrorise decent hard-working people in order to steal what is not theirs, than work for a living.

“This gang must be caught and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Ballybogey area on Sunday night or in the early hours of Monday morning, or who has any information that can help the Police in this investigation, to come forward immediately.”
