The Annual General Meeting of the Ulster Young Unionist Council was held on Wednesday 11th February 2016. On the night one key item of business was the election of the new UYUC Executive Committee for 2016/2017. Councillor Alexander Redpath, Ulster Unionist Party Officer and Deputy Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh, was elected the 10th Chairman of the reconstituted Young Unionists.
Alexander Redpath commented on his election saying:
“It is a privilege to return to the chair of the Ulster Young Unionist Council. We had a packed AGM with dozens of enthusiastic young unionists in attendance. I would like to thank our outgoing officers for their service over the past year and congratulate the new team elected at the AGM.
The Young Unionists will be focussing our attentions on this year's NI Assembly elections. A number of young unionists have been nominated as candidates and we will do all we can to ensure their election. We will also be helping other UUP candidates in target seats.
We will also continue our international work through our association with the European Young Conservatives and the International Young Democratic Union. Young Unionists believe in collaborating and learning from our partners internationally and pro-actively promoting the union at home and abroad."
The following members were elected to serve on the Executive Committee:
Vice Chair: Sky Aughey
Secretary: Neil Harrison
Treasurer: Johnny Irwin
Public Relations Officer: Rachel Hill
Organiser: Joshua Lowry
