Executive have failed to deliver on their first big promise

Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, has stated that the failure of the DUP and Sinn Fein to deliver on their first big promise from the Fresh Start Agreement is déjà vu all over again.

Mike Nesbitt said:

“The Executive is only two days old and they have already failed to deliver on their first big promise from the Fresh Start Agreement which was to publish a draft Programme for Government based on a framework document. What they have published is only the framework document. I would be confident that at the end of the consultation nobody will suggest changing outcomes like having high quality public services to low quality or having fewer people working in better jobs.

“We are still at the ‘motherhood and apple pie’ stage. We should be at the stage where the Executive is publishing the actual plans to deliver. When I was first elected five years ago I was appalled at the focus the Executive was putting on the inputs and processes of government rather than the outcomes. I don`t think we should be cheerleaders for the DUP & Sinn Fein just because they are doing something that they should have been doing for the last nine years. Indeed the former DUP Leader, Peter Robinson, said in the Assembly on 12 May 2011:

“Four of five years from now, we will not be judged on the size of our first preference votes, but on what we have done to make life better for the people whom we represent. We will be judged on delivery.”

“So at this stage it is just déjà vu all over again.”
