Ulster Unionist Party asks the Head of the Civil Service for clarity on Brexit

Following Monday's debate in which the Executive Office gave no direction, the Ulster Unionist Party is seeking clarity from the Head of the Civil Service on what work is being undertaken at a departmental level to assess the implications of the referendum decision to withdraw from the European Union.

Ulster Unionist Leader, Mike Nesbitt MLA, said:

“The people have spoken and it's now time to hear from those who are paid to implement their will. It is surprising that the Northern Ireland Executive does not have a contingency plan. It is clear that neither the British Government nor the EU have a plan. What is shocking is that the leaders of the Brexit campaign are equally clueless about the way forward.

“That is why we have entered what will be a long era of uncertainty. The priority is to offer some clarity and reassurance that those at the heart of our devolved administration are on the ball and not asleep at the wheel.”
