Elliott condemns Belleek shooting

Ulster Unionist Fermanagh & South Tyrone MP Tom Elliott has condemned this morning’s shooting incident in Belleek, in which three masked men fired a shot into a contractor’s van outside a hotel on the Main Street.

Mr Elliott said:

“l am shocked to learn that armed and masked men appeared on Belleek Main Street this morning, discharged a firearm and fled across the border.

“Belleek is a quiet Fermanagh border village and this incident will have come as a complete shock to the local community. It is a reminder that we are still plagued by those who are intent on murder, attempted murder and disruption, and of dark days which we all want to put behind us.

“Bearing in mind the fact that the gang fled in the direction of the Republic, it is clear that this investigation will be a joint one between the PSNI and the Garda. I appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in Belleek around 09:30 this morning to come forward immediately and help catch this dangerous criminal gang.”
