Make Northern Ireland a world leader in the treatment of PTSD and mental health issues - Beattie

Ulster Unionist MLA Doug Beattie MC, has met with the Justice Minister to discuss a range of issues, and has urged that a centre of excellence be established in Northern Ireland so that we can become world leaders in the treatment of mental health issues.

Doug Beattie, who is his Party’s Justice spokesperson, said:

“Today I led an Ulster Unionist delegation which met with the Justice Minister Claire Sugden MLA.

“We discussed a number of issues including the crucial role which good mental health and well-being plays within the justice field and I was pleased to find there was a great deal of common ground with the Minister.

“It is a fact that mental health affects all aspects of the justice system including those employed within it, not least police officers and prison officers.

“The Ulster Unionist Party believes that we in Northern Ireland can be world leaders in the treatment of mental health issues. We want to see a centre of excellence established here which could be used to set the standard both nationally and internationally and take the lead in terms of mental health treatment for blue-light services across the United Kingdom.”
