Swann urges Executive action to attract Spanish train manufacturer

Robin Swann, Ulster Unionist MLA for North Antrim, has urged the DUP/Sinn Fein Executive “to get its economic skates on” to try to attract more than 200 Spanish-created jobs to his constituency. Mr. Swann issued his challenge after the UK Spanish Ambassador Simon Manley announced that CAF, the Spanish rolling stock manufacturer, is to build a production and assembly plant in the UK, which could create over 200 jobs.

Mr Swann said:

“Invest NI and the Department of the Economy at Stormont need to be meeting with CAF as a matter of urgency. We have the skills and potentially the locations already becoming vacant in Ballymena.

“It’s time for the Stormont Executive to put their shoulder to the wheel. My North Antrim constituency has been hit by several severe jobs blows in the manufacturing sector in recent years. The Stormont Executive has a moral duty to assist public representatives like myself who are working hard to replace these much-needed jobs with new employment opportunities.

“The people of this great constituency of North Antrim have the expertise, experience and enthusiasm to make CAF’s plant a roaring success – we need the Executive to get its economic skates on and bring that plant to North Antrim.”
