Elliott welcomes long-awaited introduction of Northern Ireland Air Ambulance

Ulster Unionist Westminster MP Tom Elliott has welcomed the arrival of the long-awaited Air Ambulance helicopter to Northern Ireland today.

Mr Elliott said:

“At long last, Northern Ireland will have its own air ambulance, the need for which was highlighted even more by the passing of Doctor John Hinds last year. I understand the air ambulance is due to enter service in March 2017, bringing a long-awaited, essential service to this part of the United Kingdom.

“This air ambulance was only secured following tremendous pressure put on the former Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne MP and I am glad to see it has come to fruition. I do hope however, that the Northern Ireland Executive is able to come to a quick agreement in relation to finding a permanent site for the helicopter, preferably St Angelo in Fermanagh, as well as determining the levels of staff required to operate this life saving service.

“I look forward to seeing this air ambulance enter service next year, and I hope people will continue to support the Air Ambulance NI charity who are playing a key role in the provision of this service.”
