Sinn Fein comments re Cadets are out of touch with reality - Beattie

Doug Beattie MC MLA, the Ulster Unionist Justice Spokesperson, has described Sinn Fein’s comments following a Catholic school in Omagh tweeting its thanks to a PSNI officer for briefing pupils about opportunities with the RAF cadets, as fake outrage which shows Sinn Fein are out of touch with reality.

Doug Beattie MC said:

“The reaction of Sinn Fein politicians to this visit to a school by a PSNI officer is frankly depressing.  The officer was invited to the school to provide information on a number of issues including employment issues focusing on careers advice, social media and online safety and was also asked a number of questions about the RAF Cadets, a body with which he is involved.

“I know from experience that the cadet forces can open up career opportunities and training for many young people. Friendships are made and confidence gained which stands the young people in good stead whether or not they choose to pursue a military career.

“Furthermore, people will find it rather ironic that Sinn Fein should have an issue with cadets being given proper training by professionally qualified instructors who are from the lawful forces of the State, given the support from Sinn Fein for the IRA, which recruited young people into an illegal organisation and got them involved in terrorist activity.

“There is no question that on this issue, Sinn Fein are completely out of touch with reality.”
