Local Post Office services must be preserved in Antrim - Kinahan

Ulster Unionist MP Danny Kinahan has called on the Crown Post Office to be maintained in Antrim Town.

Mr Kinahan was speaking at a Westminster Hall debate today on the future of Post Office services.

The South Antrim MP said:

“The current plans by Post Office management unfortunately intend to remove the presence of the Post Office from our town centres.

“People rely on the Post Office for a wide range of services, so it is vital that it is maintained and readily accessible to the public.

“The Crown Post Office located in Castle Mall in Antrim not only serves the public, but is very much a community hub.

“The management of the Post Office should be working with other stakeholders such as, libraries and community groups, in order to offer a range of community services under one roof.

“The current plans recommended that the Castle Mall Post Office should be closed. Such a move would greatly disadvantage those that rely on its services, as well as ripping the heart out of the community.

“I will be doing all I can to ensure that this does not happen.”
