The Ulster Unionist Party’s Justice Spokesperson, Doug Beattie MC MLA, has welcomed the establishment of the four-person panel - the Independent Reporting Commission (IRC) - to monitor paramilitary activity.
Doug Beattie MC said:
“We welcome the establishment of the Independent Reporting Commission (IRC), at last.
“They have been tasked with preparing annual reports on dealing with paramilitaries, but this is something that needs dealt with in weeks and months, not years.
“Given the pernicious influence of paramilitary groups on too many communities in Northern Ireland, the Executive needs to be more ambitious and pro-active in its approach to putting them out of business.”
