Kinahan dismayed that Corporal Major Hutchings has been refused permission to have bail conditions varied

The Ulster Unionist Party’s South Antrim MP, Danny Kinahan, has expressed his dismay that former soldier, Corporal Major Dennis Hutchings, has been unsuccessful in his bid to have his bail conditions varied.

Danny Kinahan MP said:

"I simply cannot comprehend how and why Corporal Major Dennis Hutchings has been denied the right to vary his bail conditions so that he can go on holiday.

“I repeat my previous comments that what we are seeing in this case is a complete loss of proportionality and decency, not to mention common sense.

“The treatment of Corporal Major Hutchings is in stark contrast to the treatment of terrorist suspects in Northern Ireland who seem to have little difficulty in having bail conditions varied.

“Indeed, one of the last actions of the Assembly on Tuesday will be to debate an Ulster Unionist motion which calls for a Review of Bail Policy in cases of terrorism and murder.

”It is perfectly clear to me that this is an issue of fairness and the Ulster Unionist Party is determined to do its bit to highlight this issue and fight for the changes that are clearly necessary.”
