Swann welcomes good news for Ravenhill redevelopment

Ulster Unionist MLA Robin Swann has welcomed the news that the redevelopment of Ravenhill rugby ground has today received planning permission from the Environment Minister.

The North Antrim MLA who is his Party’s Sports spokesman, said;

“This is great news for Ulster Rugby and in particular the fans who can now look forward to cheering on their team in 21st Century surroundings and in an expanded 18,000 capacity stadium with the construction of three new Stands to complete a totally modernised stadium.

It is obviously important that the lives of local residents in the surrounding area are not unduly affected during the construction works and I am confident this can be achieved and that Ulster Rugby will continue to be good neighbours.

The timing of this announcement is especially welcome as Ulster are having a tremendous season, particularly in the Heineken Cup, and I am confident that the famous Ravenhill Roar will be even louder in an enlarged Stadium.”
